The ADDVISOR® vs. Clip-On Sun Visor Extenders: What's the Real Difference?

If you've searched "sun visor extender" on Amazon, you already know there are a lot of options. JOYTUTUS, Veharvim, Glare Guard, and many more. They all promise the same thing: less glare, better visibility, an easy fix where your factory visor stops covering you.

I've spent 30-plus years commuting through sun glare season, and I've tried more than one of these. So let's walk through what each one actually does, and where they run into the same wall.

What Clip-On Extenders Have in Common

Before comparing prices and features, here's the thing that matters most: every one of these products attaches to your existing car visor. Not the windshield, not independently, but to your existing car visor.

JOYTUTUS Clip-On uses a spring clip clips onto the visor from two points instead of one, which helps it stay put. It's polarized, heat-resistant and comes with a cleaning cloth. Priced around $17, $20, or $25 depending on the size.

Veharvim Double-Clip Extender uses two clips that slide over your factory visor. It's polarized, made from a hard PC lens material, and designed for a tight, no-gap fit so shorter or taller drivers aren't left with unblocked sun glare. They're priced around $20.

Veharvim Velcro Slider does the same basic job but attaches with a hook-and-loop strap instead of a clip. It has a similar polarized PC lens and similar coverage, but it uses a zipper to deploy instead of folding. Similarly pricing at around $20.

Glare Guard Professional is the priciest of the four, around $40. It attaches with two metal clips that slide onto the factory visor, uses a polarized film bonded to acrylic, and is made in the USA. There is also a version for night driving (sold separately), using polarization and a yellow tint to cut headlight glare.

All four are polarized. All four clip or strap onto your visor. And that's exactly where the limitation shows.

The Problem All Clip-On Extender Shares

Picture this. You're driving east in the morning and the glare is coming straight through your windshield. You've got one of these extenders clipped to your visor, and it's working. Then you hit a curve, or you turn at an intersection, and now the sun is coming from the side instead.

What do you do? You duck your head, grab the visor, and swing it to the side window. Extender and all. Which means your windshield is now uncovered again, right when you're mid-turn and your attention needs to be everywhere at once.

This isn't a flaw in any one of these products. It's built into the design. A clip-on extender is still just one visor with an accessory attached. When you move the visor, you move the accessory with it. You're still choosing between front or side protection. You've typically just made the front option a little nicer.

So Which Should You Buy?

Being honest, if your glare problem is mild, mostly direct sun, and you rarely turn into a second source of glare mid-drive, a clip-on extender from any of these folks will genuinely help. They're inexpensive, they install in seconds, and the polarization does cut glare.

But if you're dealing with what most of us deal with, glare that shifts as you turn, intersections that catch you off guard, or a commute where the sun comes from a different direction every few minutes, a clip-on that has to travel with your visor doesn't solve the actual problem. It just makes the front-only option more comfortable.

Sun glare contributes to roughly 9,000 crashes a year in the US, and the risk of a life-threatening crash is 16% higher in bright sunlight, according to research published by the National Library of Medicine.
